1.
I wake up in an ambulance
my head hurts
Actually my eyes and neck hurt
But when I try to shift my weight
my ribs explode my heart screams
and I puke.

I wake up confused, depressed, and nauseous
It hurts to think
Otherwise I'm sure I would remember
What I figure is, for now it doesn't matter
So keep my mouth shut
and it's cold.

Awake enough to count the tubes
and feel the straps
and braces, casts, needles, patches
like a dying lab rat all pinned out to look at
and naked in this stupid gown
it's hard to sleep.

4.
I must have slept an awful lot
my brain works
now I remember everything
the straps are gone, but not the tubes
It hurts to move but kills me
to remember.

5.
I scrunch myself up in the bed
to see the date
tears from nowhere blur the world
it's not fair to lose so many days
and why won't someone tell me
about Laura?
